Job Description

We are looking for a Tests and Validations Specialist to join our multidisciplinary R&D team and to design state-of-the-art communication system for use in the MRI room!

We have just launched a very challenging and exciting new project which will allow the System Test Specialist to be directly involved in all phases of product design. Reporting to the Senior Hardware Design Engineer, and under supervision of the EMC specialist, we expect them to perform a variety of tasks ranging from design to execution of sub-module tests in the laboratory to complete system testing in an MRI environment. Additionally, this candidate will have a direct impact on the design of the product family that we are currently defining. We are therefore looking for a versatile and passionate team member who is not afraid to take on multiple tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Define, plan, and execute validation tests for subsystems and the complete system, both in the laboratory and in an MRI environment.
• Collaborate closely with the development team to establish a test strategy aligned with product and regulatory requirements (e.g., IEC, ISO, FCC, FDA, Health Canada, 510k, etc.).
• Collaborate with our partners (engineers, physicians, clinical professionals, etc.) to understand customer needs and create innovative testing solutions for product validations. Collaborate with Mechanical team for mechanical validations of the product.
• Develop testing and validation methodologies to simulate environmental testing in our laboratories.
• Create and maintain rigorous documentation of the test and validation strategy, specifications, and execution, as well as the analysis of all resulting data.
• Manage the coordination, execution, and monitoring of regulatory testing, including EMC testing in certified laboratories.
• Manage the coordination, execution, and monitoring of environmental testing performed in the MRI room.
• Contribute to the design by identifying potential failure modes to ensure required performance and long-term product reliability.
• Provide the development team with Design for Validation and Test (DFT) recommendations.
• Develop the design and manage the manufacturing of automated test benches (validation and production) for the system and subsystems, including mechanical, electrical, and software aspects.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of validation, traceability, and product quality processes
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or related field.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in test engineering (methodology, planning, reliability, data analysis, etc.)
• Knowledge of the medical product development cycle for regulated products and the various control mechanisms.
• Proficiency in the use of laboratory equipment (oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, VNA, etc.).
• Experience in designing automated test benches (PCBA, EOL, etc.) covering RF, EMC (EMI/EMC), and thermal management.
• Familiarity with automated test environments (Phyton, LabVIEW, etc.).
• Experience working closely with electrical and mechanical engineers and product designers.

Assets

• Involvement in the testing and validation of complex products that have been marketed.
• Experience in medical product development.
• Experience with testing in an MRI environment or knowledge of the associated constraints (non-ferromagnetism, interference, security, etc.).

Soft Skills

• Ability to effectively communicate ideas and solutions in both French and English.
• Strong writing and documentation skills.
• Ability to work both individually and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

Depending on the daily tasks to be performed, working from home may be possible. However, as we often need laboratory equipment and great collaboration between the R&D teams is essential, the hardware designer must be able to come to the office with short notice if necessary.

If you are meticulous, a problem solver, and a team player, you will feel right at home. Please send your cover letter and resume to jobs@eers.ca OR submit them through our EERS Career platform.
